File Preparation

BEFORE EXPORTING FILES.

  • Bypass only mastering maximisers and or limiters on the master channel.

If you have mixed into a chain, leave it on, just disable the limiters!

  • Make sure the whole mix does not exceed -6dB on the master meter.

This can be achieved by placing a utility on the master channel and turning the gain down so your mix sits at -6dB.

  • Normalisation is disabled on export.

  • No dither.

  • Wav format 44.1k or 48k 24 Bit.

STEM MASTER.

A typical stem bounce would contain the following files (8 stems maximum).

  • One full mix (pre master)

  • Kick stem

  • Snares stem

  • Bass stem

  • Drums stem (fills, cymbals etc)

  • Synths stem

  • Leads stem

  • Vocals stem

  • FX stem

MIXING STEMS.

LEAVE ALL EQ’S AND SIDECHAINING ACTIVE UNLESS INSTRUCTED OTHERWISE.

  • Label each individual instrument correctly eg. Kick 1 Kick 2 Kick 3.

  • Solo one instrument at a time and export individually.

This process is slow but ensures all sends and automation is recorded.

Before submitting files.

Load all stems into a fresh project and check it against your full mix version.

Mix should sound less compressed, not to worry.

It is important that you check all the elements are in the stems, nothing missing before submitting.
